Apparently it was really rainy, windy and miserable yesterday. I managed to miss that part (the windy part) since I didn't get out for lunch until around 1ish. Let's have a quick moment of silence for all the umbrellas that were lost.
Found your blog via "Out & About in New York City". I love this photo. I was in NYC on the 25th during part of that miserable weather. I was with my friend, a NY/Brooklyn native, who junked his umbrella as it wasn't up to par. Never in my life had I seen a) someone junk their umbrella (and I'm from Oregon where it rains often) and b) I'd never seen a garbage can overflowing with umbrellas until he snapped a pic with his iPhone later in the evening that day. Your photo made me laugh and remember this feeling of astonishment.
You New Yorkers are definitely a different breed of people, or maybe I, the West Coaster, am the different breed...but I find you (as a people) and your city ridiculously charming.

I lost mine today, too. But it was from sheer stupidity.
